When one of North America’s largest utility companies needed a supply chain and inventory control solution to map assets in third party warehouses and several remote yards, they found a scalable, flexible single platform solution with AppLocation Systems’ MOBILEFusion™. With varying stakeholders ranging from internal departments to external contractors, flexibility and scalability were key considerations. Each stakeholder needed multi-lingual access to different reports, maps and business intelligence via secure web-based dashboards. They needed a hardware system that could start with simple presence-only detection of spools at the yard and grow to a full RTLS system. They wanted the ability to layer-on different technologies such as a GPS locating module for their fleet and to add software modules in plug and play fashion such as mapping interfaces, access to mobile forms, dispatch and capabilities for providing directions to drivers. Some of the open yards weren’t conducive to running cables and networks which is required in a conventional system. With RFind’s asset tags talking to reference tags used as fixed points, providing precise x, y coordinate locating, extensive cabling and reader infrastructures were eliminated, enabling a quick installation time or easy reconfiguration, substantially lowering costs. The tags robustness and long-life capability enabled them to be used in harsh environments, indoors or outside. They were easily attached into depressions within the spools, had flexible options such as motion sensing or beaconing and could be reused.
